PROVIDENCE - Freshman Matt Price scored his first collegiate goal - the gamewinner - and junior goaltender Cory Schneider recorded a career-high 45 saves to lead Boston College to a 2-1 Hockey East victory over Providence College in Schneider Arena.
Schneider made 16 saves in the opening period, 14 in the second and 15 in the third to record his 53rd career victory. He moved into a fifth-place tie with Greg Taylor (1993-97) and BC assistant coach Jim Logue (1958-61) on the school's all-time list.
After Providence (7-19-1, 6-13-1 Hockey East) opened the scoring just 2:36 into the game, BC sophomore defenseman Brett Motherwell brought the Eagles even just four minutes later. His unassisted power-play tally was his second of the season.
Price netted his first collegiate goal at 16:19 of the second period. Sophomore Andrew Orpik and freshman Ben Smith assisted on the score.
The host Friars outshot the Eagles, 46-23.
Providence College goalie Tyler Sims made 21 saves in 58:35.
Next, Boston College (16-10-1, 12-8-1 HE) plays Boston University on Monday, Feb. 12, in the 55th annual Beanpot championship.
