Freshman Mickel Picco scored her career high 25 points to lead Boston College past Wake Forest, 56-42, in an Atlantic Coast Conference game. Boston College is now 13-13 and 3-9 in the ACC, while Wake Forest is now 9-17 and 0-12 in the ACC.
The Eagles pulled away early in the half with an 8-2 run sparked by four points from Picco. BC held the lead throughout the half behind the hot shooting of Picco, who had 12 points in the half. Senior Sarah Marshall nailed four free throws in the final minute of action to seal the win.
Boston College played a lack-luster first half as the Eagles shot just 9-for-23 (39 percent) from the field and committed 16 turnovers. The Eagles took a 24-22 lead into the half when senior Sarah Marshall hit a jumper in the paint with 30 seconds to play. Picco kept the Eagles in the half as she shot 5-for-10 from the field, 3-for-5 from the arc for 13 points.
Along with Picco, Marshall had 10 points and seven rebounds while freshman Ayla Brown had seven points and career-high 13 rebounds.
The Eagles held Wake Forest to 20 second half points and 24 percent shooting from the field for the game.
Wake Forest was led by Yolanda Lavender 17 points.
BC will host Virginia Tech on Friday, Feb. 23 at Conte Forum at 7 p.m.
