BLACKSBURG Va. - After sweeping Boston University on Friday afternoon, the Eagles headed to Virginia looking to stay on the winning track, but dropped a 6-1 decision to the No. 51 ranked Hokies of Virginia Tech this afternoon in their ACC opener. The loss drops Eagles to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
With three of their singles players ranked in the top-100 nationally, the Hokies gave BC all they could handle in singles taking five of a possible six points. Freshman Thomas Nolan continued his strong season earning the lone point by defeating Tech's Yoann Re, 6-2, 3-5, 16-14. After a close first set, senior Soma Kesthely would fall to No. 67 ranked Arvid Puranen, 6-4, 6-2.
Doubles action was unfortunately no different, as the Hokies would sweep the Eagles, dropping only four games along the way. The Hokies would quickly earn the doubles point by winning at the No.2 and No.3 positions, 8-1 respectively. With the win, Virginia Tech improves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC action.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, February 24 when they take on the University of Buffalo at 10:00 a.m. at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
