
Women's Basketball Earns Fifth Straight Victory

The Boston College women's basketball team earned its fifth straight victory with a hard fought 67-44 win over a feisty Rhode Island team on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Conte Forum in front of 1,218 fans.
Freshman Stefanie Murphy led the Eagles with 26 points and 14 rebounds, earning her sixth double-double of the season. Freshman center Carolyn Swords notched 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while sophomore Ayla Brown added 10 points and nine rebounds. Junior Brittanny Johnson finished with seven points, five rebounds and three assists.
Boston College went up 44-25 early in the second half behind a 12-2 run highlighted by a deep three-pointer by Ayla Brown and a traditional three-point play by Brittanny Johnson. The Rams never recovered from the Eagles spurt as the Eagles lead grew to 20 points after a lay up by Murphy at 9:49. BC shot 44 percent from the field in the second half and held the Rams to 20 percent from the field.
It took most of the first half to pull away from the Rams. The lead exchanged eight times before the Eagles could pull away at 7:37. BC went up 27-21 on a 6-2 run with buckets by Murphy, Corey Rusin, Becca Miles and Johnson. The Eagles extended the lead behind three consecutive baskets by Murphy and held a 33-22 lead at the half.

BC out rebounded URI, 49-36. The Eagles have not out-rebounded all nine opponents they have played this season ... Stefanie Murphy has six double-doubles this season ... Ayla Brown went 2-for-3 from the three-point line. She now has hit seven from long range for her career-high ... The Eagles had 22 assists on 29 field goals ...
