Ryan, Silva and McGovern Named Gridiron Club Award Winners

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior quarterback Matt Ryan, senior free safety Jamie Silva and assistant coach Bill McGovern all received 2007 New England College Football Awards, announced the Gridiron Club last Friday.
Ryan and Silva were co-recipients of the George "Bulger" Lowe Award, which honors the best Division I offensive and defensive players in New England. McGovern and Mike McLaughlin, defensive coordinator at Plymouth State, received Assistant Coach of the Year accolades.
Other Gridiron Club awards included the Joe Zabilski Award, which recognizes the top collegiate players in Divisions II and III, the Nils V. "Swede" Nelson Award for exceptional achievement in academics, athletics, and sportsmanship and the Head Coach of the Year. Randy Edsall of Connecticut won the Bowl/Championship Divisions award and Skip Bandini of Curry College took home the honor for Divisions II and III.
Ryan, Silva and McGovern will be honored at the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston's annual Bob Whelan College Football Awards Night on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at the Marriott Hotel in Burlington, Mass.
