
Women's Basketball Captures Invitational at Northwestern

Evanston, IL - The Boston College women's basketball team captured the Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational with a 73-66 victory over host Northwestern on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improved to 5-2, and will host Holy Cross on Wednesday, December 5 (7 p.m. at Conte Forum.)
Boston College was led by freshman Stefanie Murphy with 17 points and 16 rebounds, while freshman Carolyn Swords notched 16 points and nine rebounds. BC sophomore guard Mickel Picco and senior point guard Victoria Jones also reached double-figures in the win. Picco shot 3-for-5 from the three-point arc and finished with 15 points, while Victoria Jones notched a career-high 11 points and went 9-for-10 from the foul line.
The Eagles led from start to finish. Boston College took a 16-4 lead in the first half as Swords and Murphy combined for nine points. Northwestern cut into the lead by hitting four three-pointers and BC held a slim eight point halftime lead, 38-30.
BC's largest lead in the second half was at 10:57 when senior Rebecca Miles nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key. The Eagles lead was 18 points (56-38). Northwestern slowly chipped away at the lead and made the game a six point affair at 4:31 when Nadia Bibbs hit two free throws. At 2:11 to play, Swords came up with a big play, rebounding a missed shot and putting it up and in to give the Eagles a 63-55 lead.
Boston College then hit 10-for-12 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to seal the win. Jones had hit five free throws, while Murphy had four down the stretch.
Murphy and Swords made the All-Tournament team, while Murphy was named the MVP of the tournament.
