No. 10 Women's Hockey Falls to No. 1 New Hampshire, 4-1

Durham, N.H. - No. 10 Boston College lost its second matchup this season to No. 1 New Hampshire, 4-1, on Wednesday night. BC dropped the first game by the same score at Kelley Rink on Oct. 25. The Eagles drop to 5-3-1, 2-3-0 in Hockey East. The Wildcats improve to 8-1-0, and win their sixth conference game.
The two teams battled through the first period without a goal. The Wildcats outshot the Eagles, 13-3. Neither team was able to capitalize on power plays, as BC went 0-2 and UNH went 0-3.
The Wildcats notched the first goal of the game 17 minutes into the second period. Kelly Paton slipped the puck past goalie Molly Schaus. Sam Faber and Courtney Birchard assisted Paton's ninth goal of the season.
New Hampshire outshot Boston College again in the second stanza, 11-3. Both teams held off the others' man-up advantages. The Eagles killed the Wildcats' only power play and UNH killed both BC opportunities.
In the third minute of the third period, the Wildcats struck again. Faber and Paton hooked up for a second time, but Faber notched the score on Paton's pass to give UNH a two-point lead.
New Hampshire increased its lead to 3-0 a little over a minute later when Jennifer Hitchcock netted her fifth goal of the season on a power play. Steph Holmes and Sadie Wright-Ward recorded the assists. The goal marked UNH's 10th power-play goal of the season.
Wildcat Micela Long scored her first goal of the season on another Wright-Ward assist to make the score 4-0. Birchard also recorded an assist on New Hampshire's second power-play goal.
Junior Maggie Taverna netted the Eagles' first goal at 15:12 in the third period to make the score 4-1. Taverna's second goal of the season was assisted by senior Colleen Harris and sophomore Kelli Stack on BC's seventh power-play opportunity. Harris recorded her second assist of the season, while Stack registered her third.
Schaus recorded a regular-game season high 34 saves in the loss as her counterpart, Kayley Herman made 11 stops. The Wildcats were 2-8 on power-play opportunities while the Eagles were 1-7.
The Eagles return to Kelley Rink to take on Northeastern on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
