
No. 10 Women's Hockey Upends Northeastern, 4-2

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Tenth-ranked Boston College notched its sixth win of the season by beating cross-town rival Northeastern, 4-2, Friday night. The Eagles, now 6-3-1, nailed down their third Hockey East win to improve their record to 3-3-0. The Huskies dropped to 1-9-1, 1-2-0 in the conference.
Senior Deborah Spillane started the scoring early, netting her fourth goal of the season 2:33 into the first period. Senior Erin Blood tallied her first point of the 2007-08 season on the assist.
The Eagles did not let up in the second period and senior Colleen Harris nailed her first goal of the season in the seventh minute of the middle stanza on a power-play opportunity. Senior Lindsay Wright recorded her first assist on the year and freshman Katelyn Kurth recorded her fourth dish.
BC increased its lead to 3-0 with less than two minutes to play in the second period when Wright gave the puck up to senior Stephanie Olchowski, who dished to sophomore Allie Thunstrom. Thunstrom fired the shot past Northeastern goalie Leah Sulyma for her fifth goal of the season.
The Huskies made a run in the third period. They scored their first goal of the game 42 seconds in when Kristi Kehoe slipped the puck past sophomore goaltender Molly Schaus on a man-up advantage. Lindasy Berman and Katy Applin were credited with the assists.
Cassie Sperry brought Northeastern within one in the sixth minute of the final period when she nailed Brenna Frost's pass past Schaus.
Junior Meghan Fardelmann gave the Eagles an insurance goal in the with under five minutes to play on a pass from Spillane. Sophomore Kelli Stack was also credited with the assist, her fourth of the season.
The Eagles outshot the Huskies, 30-20, and converted one-of-three power play opportunities. They killed six of NU's seven power play chances. Sulyma finished the day with 26 saves while Schaus registered 18.
The Eagles travel to New Haven, Conn., to take on the Yale Bulldogs on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 2:00 p.m.
