After leading Boston College to another come-from-behind win and a berth in the ACC Championship Game, Matt Ryan has been named the league's Offensive Back of the Week. This week's honor is his fifth this season. In addition, BC true freshman cornerbck DeLeon Gause was named league Rookie of the Week for his play in his first collegiate start.
Also earning league recognition this week as Offensive and Defensive Lineman of the Week, respectively, are Wake Forest center Steve Justice and Clemson defensive end Phillip Merling. Wake's Aaron Curry was named Defensive Back of the Week, taking a league honor for the second time this season. This week's ACC Specialist of the Week award goes to Georgia Tech punter Durant Brooks.
Ryan once again led the Eagles to a come-from-behind win. Down 17-13 with the fourth quarter winding down, Ryan orchestrated an eight-play, 71-yard drive that ended with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Rich Gunnell for the game's winning points. In total, Ryan completed 31-of-47 pass attempts for 315 yards and a touchdown in the game.
Starting in place of the injured DeJuan Tribble for the first time in his career on Saturday, Gause led the Eagles with nine total tackles against Clemson. He also contributed one tackle for loss, as the Boston College defense held the high-powered Clemson offense to 273 yards in the Eagles' 20-17 win.
