
Four Field Hockey Players Earn All-Northeast Honors

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Four Eagles earned Longstreth/NFHCA All-Northeast Region accolades, according to the roster released Wednesday. Junior goalie Julia Berkowitz and junior forward Bob Dirks were named to the first team while senior forward Crystal Frates and sophomore forward Chelsey Feole made the second team.
Berkowitz, a captain, held the team's 12-8 record for the 2007 season. In her 1,354 minutes, she recorded 108 saves and a 1.60 goals-against average. She ranked second in the ACC for saves and third for GAA. Her .777 save percentage tied for 18th in the NCAA and second in the conference. Berkowitz tallied a career-high 17 saves in the 2-0 loss to undefeated North Carolina on Oct. 13 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Her consistent play earned her All-ACC and All-ACC tournament honors as well.
Dirks, the 2006 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, also earned All-ACC honors in 2007. She led BC in points (38), goals (13) and assists (12). She was the only player on the Eagles to have double-digit assist and goal totals. Dirks ranked 10th in the NCAA for points per game (1.95). She was second in the ACC for shots with 99 and tied for third in goals. She ranks fourth in points and fifth on the assist list.
Dirks now holds BC's career goals and career points records. She netted 43 goals in her three years as an Eagle and recorded 107 points to top both lists. Dirks tallied at least one point in 14 of the team's 20 games in 2007. She scored two goals against four different teams, including No. 15 Duke, and had nine multi-point games, including racking up seven points against Sacred Heart.
This is the third time Frates earned All-Regional honors. She was the team's third-highest scorer, tallying 14 points on six goals and two assists. She netted two gamewinners, including scoring the game-ending goal in the 2-1 overtime victory against No. 18 Albany. She had five multi-points games, including netting two goals in the 5-2 win over New Hampshire. Frates also graces BC's all-time record book, ranking fifth with 40 goals and sixth with 89 points.
Feole had a break-out season, earning her first All-Regional honors. She was the team's second-leading scorer with 24 points on 11 goals and two assists. She was the only other Eagle to notch a double-digit goal total on the season. Feole led the team in game-winning goals with three, netting them against Sacred Heart, Holy Cross and Dartmouth. She also recorded a hat trick in the 7-2 win over Holy Cross. She tied for ninth on the ACC goal list and fourth on the gamewinner list.
Eagle teammate, senior forward Caitlyn Young, will be playing in the NFHCA Division I All-Star on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in College Park, Md.
