On Monday, October 22, 2007, Boston College Women's Rowing was named a permanent member of the EAWRC Sprints.
Coaches founded the EAWRC (Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges) as an independent league, to provide oarswomen with a highly competitive regatta. The original varsity-only 1,000 meter race has evolved into a championship which includes six different eights races and three races for coxed fours. This expansion, combined with the advent of an NCAA-sponsored National Championships, created a need for a more formal organizing structure. Hence, the ECAC accepted the EAWRC as an affiliate in 2001.
In 2006, the EAWRC welcomed Boston College as a provisional member. After having participated in past EAWRC Sprints, Boston College earned provisional status and has now earned full-time recognition starting with the championship to be held in May 2008.
"I am excited about the opportunity this represents for Boston College. The EAWRC consistently produces many of the fastest teams in the country," said Boston College Head Coach Steve Fiske. "We are looking forward to contending for the Championship this year and into the future".
