HANOVER, N.H. --After dominating the Big Green 7-0 last season, the Eagles were handed a tough 4-3 loss to Dartmouth College yesterday at the Alexis Boss Tennis Center. The loss drops the Eagles' record to 1-1 while Dartmouth improved to 2-0.
Sophomore Lana Krasnopolsky, who is ranked No. 14 in the ITA East Region and has a No. 71 national ranking, lost a tough match to Dartmouth's Megan Zebroski 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 1 position, giving the Big Green the decisive victory.
Krasnopolsky was given a point penalty for ball abuse after Zebroski broke her at love to go up 6-5 in the second set. Despite the distraction, Zebroski would hold serve to win the set 7-5, and clinch the match for the Big Green.
Sophomores Dasha Cherkasov, Lauren Cash and Alina Sullivan would all have tough matches, but would hold on to give the Eagles three points in singles. Cherkasov and Cash would win close straight setters, while Sullivan would be pushed to a third set, but hold on for a 5-7, 7-5, 10-4 win.
Dartmouth would play strong doubles dominating at No. 1 and No. 3 positions to win the doubles point. Junior Megan Zebroski and Mary Beth Winingham surprised the ITA East Region's No. 9-ranked team of Lauren Cash and Dasha Cherkasov 8-2.
The Eagles next match is Saturday, February 3 against Colombia at 10:00 a.m. at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
