Worcester, Mass.--The 11th-ranked Boston College field hockey team won its second game of the weekend and improved to 2-1 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Holy Cross. Junior Crystal Frates scored twice to lead the Eagles and senior Caitlin Gillen recorded the gamewinner. Holy Cross dropped to 2-1.
The Eagles were the first to score for the third straight game when Frates converted a penalty corner for an unassisted goal at the 25:10 mark. The Crusaders' Sara O'Coin retaliated less than three minutes later to even up the score, 1-1, where it would stand until the second half. Boston College had nine penalty corners in the first half to Holy Cross' one.
Gillen scored 1:26 into the second half, and freshman Chelsey Feole recorded her first collegiate point with the assist. Gillen's goal proved to be all the Eagles would need to secure the win, but Frates knocked in her second unassisted goal of the game less than a minute later, just to be sure.
Sophomore goaltender Julia Berkowitz made four saves and earned the win. Holy Cross netminders Erin Singleton and Kelly Casey combined for 11 saves on the game. Boston College outshot Holy Cross, 17-7.
The next game for Boston College will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7 at the Newton Campus Turf Field. The Eagles will take on Northeastern University.
