Football Holds Final Scrimmage Of 2006 Preseason

Junior quarterback Matt Ryan completed eight-of-13 passing attempts for 111 yards and running backs Andre Callender and L.V. Whitworth each recorded one touchdown as Boston College held its fourth and final intrasquad scrimmage of the 2006 preseason at Alumni Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Whitworth ran the ball six times for 27 yards, while Callender carried nine times for 24 yards.
Ryan got the scrimmage off to a fast start, completing five of his first six passes for 85 yards to set up consecutive touchdown scoring drives to open play.
Sophomore wide receiver Brandon Robinson caught the lone throwing touchdown of the afternoon, a 64-yard pass from sophomore QB Chris Crane. Robinson led the receiving corps with five catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. Redshirt freshman Rich Gunnell caught four balls for 29 yards while tight end Ryan Purvis registered two receptions for 37 yards.
Crane completed 2-of-7 passes for 68 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Freshman Billy Flutie completed seven-of-13 attempts for 53 yards and one interception.
Defensively, Wes Davis tallied a game-high 10 tackles, while sophomore linebacker Kevin Akins recorded six tackles, including three sacks and two tackles for losses. Jolonn Dunbar registered five tackles and one interception and Robert Francois tallied two sacks and one interception.
Junior place kicker Ryan Ohliger connected on two-of-three field goal attempts - one from 28 yards and one from 35 yards.
BC opens its 2006 season at Central Michigan on Thursday, Aug. 31. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
