The Boston College men's basketball team will host Michigan State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and face Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse, according to the schedule released by the school and the conference office.
Three non-league games against New England foes will also spark some interest. After a one-year hiatus, Boston College and Providence College will renew their longstanding rivalry when they meet in the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Nov. 22. On Dec. 6, BC will host Fairfield, which is led by former BC assistant coach Ed Cooley. BC closes the 2006 calendar year with a Dec. 31 home contest against Northeastern. The Huskies are coached by former BC associate head coach Bill Coen.
These non-league contests will bolster the Eagles' 16-game Atlantic Coast Conference slate. BC opens ACC play with a nationally-televised Dec. 10 game against Maryland. The game marks the second time in as many seasons that BC has opened its league schedule with an early-season contest against the Terrapins.
Just one week after playing at Providence, BC will host Michigan State in the eighth annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Nov. 29 game will mark the Eagles' first-ever appearance in the challenge. The Eagles and Spartans did meet last year, with MSU gaining 77-70 victory in the Jimmy V Classic in Madison Square Garden on Dec. 6.
The Eagles play Massachusetts in the Mullins Center on Saturday, Dec. 2. After three home games, including the conference opener, BC returns to the road to meet Kansas on its heralded homecourt on Dec. 23.
Once January rolls around, BC turns its focus to conference play. With the exception of a Jan. 3 game against Yale and a Jan. 31 contest against Hartford, the remainder of the slate is occupied by 15 ACC games.
BC's league schedule includes three home games in January and four home dates in February. The February slate will be highlighted by consecutive home games against Duke and North Carolina. ESPN will carry both of these contests. The Blue Devils will come to Conte Forum for a Valentine's Day game, while the Tar Heels will make their first-ever visit to Chestnut Hill on Feb. 17.
The Eagles conclude their home schedule with a Senior Day game against Clemson on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. BC wraps up the regular season at Georgia Tech on Sunday, March 4.
