No-Hitter for Terry: Current BC pitcher Terry Doyle threw a no-hitter on July 16 for the Yarmouth Dennis Red Sox against the Chatham A's in Cape Cod League action. The junior from Warwick, R.I., faced 28 batters, retiring 27, with the only A's player reaching base because of a walk. The final score of the game was 1-0. Terry topped off his gem with a 12-strikeout effort, and improved his summer's stats to 3-1, 3.53 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 35.2 innings. Doyle's no-hitter was the first on the Cape Cod League since 2002.
Jared McGuire, BC junior and 2005 Big East Player of the Year, also currently plays in the Cape Cod League as a member of the Hyannis Mets. McGuire was signed to a regular contract at the start of the season, allowing the Harwich, Mass., native to live a dream of playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
McGuire is currently hitting .272 in 22 games for his new club.
Matt Meyer Update: Lefthander Matt Meyer signed a pro contract with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the New York-Penn League. In six appearances so far this season as a member of the Cleveland Indians Class-A affiliate, the southpaw has been impressive, with a 0.93 ERA in 9.2 innings of relief work. Meyer, a Rochester, Minn., native is also 1-0 with Mahoning Valley, with 12 strikeouts.
Dave Preziosi also recently signed a contract. Preziosi has joined the Dodgers organization, signing a deal earlier this summer with the GCL (Gulf Coast League) Dodgers, located in Vero Beach, Fla. The lefthander, originally from Oradell, N.J., was a 1B/pitcher for the Eagles, and has already seen action for the Dodgers affiliate. Preziosi is 0-1 in four games, with a solid 2.25 ERA.
Locke Promoted: After being selected as the Los Angeles Dodgers' minor league player of the month for May with the Columbus Catfish, outfielder Drew Locke was promoted on June 22 to the Vero Beach Dodgers, the organization's Class-A Advanced affiliate. Locke hit .375 in the month of May, with eight doubles, three home runs, and 34 RBI with the Catfish.
Since receiving his new promotion, the Weymouth, Mass., native and BC High grad, has appeared in 22 games with Vero Beach, hitting .268, with three home runs, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored.
Where's Jason? Drew Locke's former high school and college teammate, Jason Delaney, is also making a name for himself. The outfielder, originally of Hanson, Mass., is a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, playing for the Class-A affiliate, Hickory Crawdads. Delaney, the former 12th round pick of the Pirates, is starring for the Crawdads this year, appearing in 86 games, batting .299, with six home runs and 43 RBI.
While struggling as a rookie in the minor leagues, Delaney has come into his own this year. Delaney went 3-for-5, with two RBI on July 13 against the Hagerstown Suns of the New York Mets farm system.
