Hanover, N.H. - Pete Frates continued his hot hitting, singling home the eventual game winner, as Boston College used five runs in the eighth to erase a three-run deficit and take down Ivy League foe Dartmouth 9-6 in Hanover N.H.
Trailing 6-3, Shawn McGill led off the top of the eighth with a double down the left field line. After Eric Campbell was hit by a pitch and both runners moved into scoring position on an ensuing wild pitch, Ruiz drove them home to cut the Big Green lead to 6-5. Ryne Reynoso followed with a single, sending pinch-runner Robert Dittrich to second and Johnny Ayers tied the score with a single of his own. A Frates sacrifice fly gave the Eagles the lead for good as Jared McGuire and Ryan Hutchinson added insurance RBIs for the 9-6 final.
Both teams jumped on the board in the first inning. In the top half, Frates reached on a single and was sent to third on a McGuire base hit. A Dave Preziosi groundout gave the Eagles a one run lead. Raymond Allen tied the score for Dartmouth in the bottom of the inning with a single.
The Big Green added one in the second on an Erik Bell single and two in the third on an error and a bases load walk.
The Eagles responded in the third, scoring one run when Ayers scooted home on a wild pitch, and the fourth on a Reynoso sacrifice fly.
Dartmouth took a 6-3 lead in the seventh as Tommy Myette doubled home Allen who had walked and Michael Pagliarulo followed with an RBI single.
The Eagles then used five hits in the eighth to overcome the deficit as Nick Asselin earned the win, allowing no runs in the final 2.1 innings.
The Eagles begin a thee-game series against Maryland at 1 p.m at Shea Field tomorrow.
