Chestnut Hill, Mass - Boston College catcher Shawn McGill earned first team all-New England honors and pitchers Ted Ratliff and Kevin Boggan claimed second-team recognition according to an announcement made by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association on Tuesday.
McGill finished the season with a .322 batting average, and hit .420 over the last 17 games of the season, including a combined 14 for 24 performance in series wins over No. 5 Georgia Tech and Maryland. The senior also captured ACC Player of the Week honors on May 8 and earned Fox Sports Net 'Player of the Game' following BC's televised matchup against Maryland on May 7.
Ratliff made fourteen appearances on the mound, including six starts in which he surrendered only eight runs in 35 innings pitched. The junior won four straight starts from April 6 to April 25, including a memorable complete-game, nine-strikeout performance against Harvard at Fenway Park to capture the Beanpot.
Boggan was a strong performer out of the bullpen, compiling a stretch of 15 appearances (28 innings) with two earned runs from March 25 to April 30. The junior right-hander added seven saves and closed out Clemson and Georgia Tech April 22 and April 29.
The first and second teams will be part of the annual College All-Star Game to be played at Fenway Park on May 28.
