Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the No. 22 North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday at Shea Field. Ashley Obrest and Angela Pandolfo each collected a hit for the Eagles, while Britney Thompson pitched four scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Amanda Klimczak came in on the mound for the final two innings, striking out four Tar Heels.
The Eagles now stand at 15-17 overall and 2-10 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
North Carolina got its first run in the fifth inning, off an Erin Dudley home run - her second of the season. They added to their 1-0 lead with another home run, this time coming from the bat of Anna Evans. They completed the scoring in the seventh when Jennifer Jacobs doubled to left field to score Ashley Oxendine.
Jenna Macchi led the Eagles with three assists, while Ashley Obrest collected nine put outs.
In Klimczak's two innings of relief she faced eight batters, striking out four and surrendering one run on two hits.
Boston College returns to the field on Tuesday, April 11, when the Eagles travel to Cambridge, Mass., to face Harvard at 2:00 in a doubleheader. Their next home game is Thursday, April 13, at 1:30 against Maine.
