The Boston College softball team swept Holy Cross on Thursday, April 6, at BC's Shea Field. Win the win the Eagles improve to 14-15 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 4-15. The Eagles won by a 12-0 margin in the first game and 3-1 in the second. Danielle Pandolfo slammed home her first homerun of her career to win the second game for the Eagles.
In the first game the Eagles took an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Ashley Obrest's homerun, her second of the year, drove in Jenna Macchi and Kristin Allain.
In the second inning, Britney Thompson struck out all three batters that stepped up to the plate. The Eagles extended their lead with a hit from Carley McNary that drove in Amanda Booth. Jenna Macchi flied out to right field, and drove in McNary.
The Eagles tacked on three more runs in the third inning with runs from Allain, Macchi and Elena Ferrero.
In fourth inning, the Eagles collected four runs. With Allain and Macchi on first and second base, Renee Ramos hit a double that drove in Allain. Ferrero knocked in her 24th and 25th RBIs of the season, a team-high, driving in Ramos and Macchi. Kimmy Hopkin's single drove in Ferrero to round out the scoring for the Eagles.
Britney Thompson pitched 4.0 innings, striking out eight batters and allowing only two hits. Erin Corsini came in on relief and allowed no hits. With the win, Thompson improves to 7-6 on the season.
In the second game, Holy Cross took the early lead with a Megan Lally double that drove in Beth Richard.
The Eagles tied up the score in the fourth inning with a Jenna Macchi homerun. Danielle Pandolfo hit her first homerun of her career, and drove in Obrest to give a 3-1 lead to the Eagles.
Savana Lloyd was the Eagles pitcher on record, pitching 6.0 innings, striking out four batters and allowing three runs on four hits. Amanda Klimczak pitched the final inning, striking out one batter and allowing no hits.
The Eagles host North Carolina on Saturday, April 8 in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00. They also play on Sunday, April 9 at 1:00 pm.
