Softball Drops 5-3 Decision to Providence

Providence, R.I. - The Boston College softball team fell, 5-3, to Providence College on Wednesday, April 26, in Providence, R.I. Kimmy Hopkin led at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and a single. The Eagles now stand at 19-23 overall.
Hopkin got things going in the first inning for the Eagles with a double. Senior Kristin Allain singled through the right side on the next at bat to put runners on first and third. Hopkin scored on the next play, as Jenna Macchi reached on a throwing error. Ashley Obrest's single to shortstop drove in Allain and advanced Macchi to third. Providence turned a double on the next at bat to get Obrest out at second and Renee Ramos out at first, but Macchi scored on the play to give BC the early 3-0 edge.
Throughout the first three innings, pitcher Amanda Klimczak struck out two batters and allowed no runs on three hits. However in the fourth inning, the Friar's four runs on four hits gave them the one-run lead. Providence tacked on one more run in the fifth inning to round out the scoring.
The Eagles host Virginia on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30 in the final home series of the season. The doubleheader on Saturday begins at 1:00 p.m.
