Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team defeated Boston University, 5-2, on Thursday, April 20, at BC's Shea Field. Freshman Savana Lloyd pitched five strong innings, striking out five batters and holding the Terrier's to one earned run. Ashley Obrest hit her third home run of the season to lead the Eagles offense. Boston College improves to 17-21 on the season, while BU falls to 20-22.
The Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak with the win over the Terriers. Lloyd held the Terriers to two runs - one earned - in five innings pitched.
Boston University got on the board first with a single to center field. Brandi Shields advanced to second on the throw then advanced to third on a BC fielding error. Christy Leath crossed home to give the Terrier's their only lead of the day.
Boston College claimed the lead in the second with an Elena Ferrero double. Ashley Obrest and Renee Ramos scored on the play, as Ferrero collected her 33rd and 34th RBI of the season - a team-high.
The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the third when Ashley Obrest smacked a two-run home run on the first pitch. Jenna Macchi scored on the play.
In the fourth frame, Kimmy Hopkin's single was enough to get Carley McNary from second base to home plate and extend the Eagles lead to 5-1.
Boston University cut the lead to three in the fifth as Benson's single drove in Shayne Lotito.
Britney Thompson came out of the bullpen in the sixth inning to earn her second save of the season. Thompson closed out the seventh inning with runners on second and third.
The Eagles swept the season series with their cross-town rival as Boston College defeated BU earlier in the season with a 7-4 win, behind Ferrero's grand slam.
