Softball Drops Two Games to Georgia Tech

Atlanta, Ga. - The Boston College softball team fell 12-11 and 10-4 to Georgia Tech in the first two games of the three-game series. The Eagles are now 16-19 overall and 2-12 in the ACC. Kimmy Hopkin led with five hits in two games, collecting two RBIs. In game two, Hopkin was three-for-three with two doubles.
In game one the Eagles took the early lead scoring four runs in the second inning. Amanda Booth drove in the first run with a single to left center field which allowed Elena Ferrero to reach home plate and Britney Thompson to advance to third. Hopkin singled down the right side to drive in Thompson. Carley McNary came in to pinch run for Hopkin and stole second base, placing runners on second and third. Booth scored the third run, when Kristin Allain reached on a fielding error. Jenna Macchi collected the fourth RBI as she reached on a fielder's choice, and drove in McNary.
Georgia Tech cut the lead to two runs in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded Aileen Morales singled up the middle, which gave Amy Hosier and Christine Sheridan enough time to round the bases and score. With runners on first and third the Eagles got out of the inning with a play at home plate. Whitney Haller attempted to score when Jenna Macchi threw to Ashley Obrest who tagged her out at the plate.
The Eagles tacked on another run in the fourth frame with a double to left center field. Booth had reached base after being hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Allain's double was enough to get Booth home to increase the Eagles lead to 5-2. The Yellow Jackets added a run in the bottom of the inning.
In the fifth frame, the Yellow Jackets knotted the score at seven. At the top of the inning the Eagles collected two more runs, but Georgia Tech added four to even the score. Neither team scored in the sixth, which led to the final inning showdown.
The Eagles took advantage of a Georgia Tech throwing error, as Danielle Pandolfo scored from second base. Booth collected her second RBI with a single to left center. Angela Pandolfo and Booth scored the final two runs for the Eagles. In the final half of the seventh the Yellow Jackets scored five runs on five hits to edge the Eagles, 12-11.
Savana Lloyd suffered the loss for the Eagles, pitching the final 2.2 innings.
In game two, the Eagles fell behind in the second inning by three runs, but answered in the third with three runs of their own. McNary got the Eagles on the board and Renee Ramos collected two RBIs with a single up the middle that drove in Hopkin and Obrest.
In the top of the fifth, Obrest's double to left center drove in Allain and gave the Eagles their first lead of the game. In the bottom half of the inning, Haller homered to left center, collecting three RBIs and reclaiming the lead, 6-4. Savannah Brown hit Georgia Tech's second consecutive home run increasing their lead to three. Boston College ended the inning with a play at the plate. Caitlin Lever doubled down the right field line and Hosier advanced to third and attempted to go home but Booth threw home and Obrest tagged her out.
The Yellow Jackets scored four more runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to make the final score 10-4.
Boston College returns to action tomorrow at 1:00 when they play the final game of the weekend series with Georgia Tech.
