Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College belted out 14 hits and took advantage of six Harvard errors to shutout the Crimson 10-0 at Shea Field in Chestnut Hill.
Playing in its sixth straight home game, the Eagles climbed on the board early via three first inning errors by the Crimson.
Johnny Ayers and Ryan Hutchinson reached on errors and would score on a Jared McGuire single. McGuire advanced to second on an errant throw from right field and Eric Campbell followed a Shawn McGill walk with a single to right, scoring McGuire and posting a 3-0 lead.
McGuire struck again in the second, driving in Pete Frates who reached on an error by the shortstop to start the inning, making the lead 4-0.
The Eagles scored at least one run in the first five innings, as Jett Ruiz drilled his third home run of the season in the third, and Campbell picked up an RBI by driving in Hutchinson in the fourth, staking BC to a 6-0.
With two outs in the fifth BC added more. Hutchinson was hit by a pitch and stole second, as McGuire followed with his third RBI of the day by doubling to center. The preseason all-American was 4 for 5 with two RBIs while Hutchinson scored three runs. McGill then made the score 9-0 with a triple to left center.
James MacDonald and Kevin Boggan were flawless in relief and Ryan Akel added the tenth and final run of the day with a single to left, driving in Robert Dittrich.
BC starter Ted Ratliff cruised during seven innings of work, facing the minimum through four and allowing only one hit. Ratliff also used some spectacular defensive plays by Campbell at third and Ayers at shortstop to move his record to 3-0 on the season.
Overall, the Eagles are now 18-15-1 and will travel to Charlottesville to play UVA in a three game series this weekend.
