Women's Lacrosse Defeats UMass, 16-10

Amherst, Mass. - Senior tri-captain Elizabeth Kadison and freshman Margot Spatola both tallied four goals a piece, while Spatola also added an assists as they led the Eagles to a win over UMass, 16-10. Five different Eagles tallied two or more goals in the game as the Eagles handily defeated the Minutewomen, while never trailing in Saturday afternoon's game. With the win the Eagles now stand at 6-4 overall on the season.
The game was delayed for 20 minutes in the first half as a small tornado blew through the campus as both teams took shelter in the gymnasium until the weather cleared and repairs were made to the field.
With the four goals on the afternoon, Kadison continues to lead the Eagles in points on 20 goals and seven assists.
The Eagles opened up scoring at 28:19 in the first half as Katherine Wagoner put the ball in the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Kadison scored the next two goals for the Eagles on assists by freshman Maura Mahoney and Emily Hannigan to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. The Eagles then scored three unanswered goals within a 10 minute span as Hannigan scored, Spatola then notched her first goal of the game and Mahoney scored on a free position shot to put BC on top, 6-2. Meghan Reddy scored for the Minutewomen at 3:37, but Kadision answered right back one minute later as the Eagles took a four goal lead at halftime with the score at 7-3.
In the second half the Eagles continued their attack on the UMass goal as they went on a 4-1 run in the first eight minutes of the half. Freshmen Mahoney, Hannigan and Spatola all notched their second scores of the game while sophomore Shauna Culhane tallied her first of three goals at 22:10. UMass started a scoring streak of their own as they tallied four straight goals by Jeannette Villapiano and Kathleen Typadis to bring the Minutewomen within three at, 11-8.
Spatola scored two straight goals on free-position shots at 12:38 and 6:06. UMass scored two more goals before the end of the game, but Kadison notched her fourth and final goal with 2:21 left in the game. Culhane notched the two last goals of the game to give the Eagles a 16-10 win.
Freshman Katie Monaghan started the game in goal making six saves in 47 minutes. Sophomore Courtney Zwirko played the final 13 minutes allowing two goals while making six saves.
The Eagles host the Connecticut Huskies next at Newton Campus Field on April, 5 at 6:30 p.m.
