Junior quarterback Matt Ryan completed 11-of-22 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns in Boston College's first intrasquad scrimmage of the spring practice season Saturday afternoon in Alumni Stadium. Sophomore backup quarterback Chris Crane completed 11-of-17 passes for 105 yards and one touchdown, a 44-yard strike to sophomore wide receiver Brandon Robinson. Tailbacks L.V. Whitworth, Andre Callender and John Siravo combined for 221 yards and one touchdown on 41 carries.
"I was happy with the intensity and enthusiasm," Coach Tom O'Brien said. "I think the kids competed hard, although we understand it's only a start. With some of our young players, there's a long way to go. What's most important now is to progress this week and next as we prepare for the spring game."
Robinson led all receivers with three catches for 61 yards. Sophomore tight end Ryan Purvis had three completions for 42 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown reception from Ryan.
Junior place-kicker Ryan Ohliger connected on field goals from 30, 31 and 32 yards. He missed a 38-yard attempt and had a 29-yard attempt blocked by junior safety Jamie Silva.
Junior cornerback DeJuan Tribble intercepted one of Ryan's passes and returned it 21 yards.
The Eagles will scrimmage again next Saturday afternoon in preparation for the April 22 Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game, which will kick off at 2 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
