Baseball Defeats Hartford, 3-2, In 10 Innings

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Shawn McGill drove in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead Boston College in a 3-2 non-conference win over University of Hartford at Shea Field.
Sophomore Johnny Ayers, who doubled to left field with one out in the 10th, scored the winning run from second base for BC. Ayers collected two hits and scored two runs on the day.
Junior Ted Ratliff pitched 7.2 innings for the Eagles, who took a 2-1 lead off junior Jared McGuire's home run in the fifth inning and carried their lead into the final frame.
The visiting Hawks posted consecutive hits to put two runners on base in the ninth inning and Bryan Propst (4-for-5) singled off Kevin Boggan with two outs to score the game-tying run for Harford (1-17).
Following Boggan's hitless 10th inning, McGill collected his second hit and drove in Ayers for the win.
Ratliff scattered six hits, allowed just one earned run and struck out four batters in seven-plus innings of work.
McGuire went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored, while junior Ryan Hutchinson collected a game-high three hits for BC, which improves to 14-10 on the season.
Boggan collected his fourth win and is now 4-1 on the season.
