Craig Smith Gains All-America Honors

Boston College senior Craig Smith earned Associated Press All-America third-team honors, according to an announcement made by the wire service.
Smith, who finished his collegiate career ranked second on Boston College's career scoring list and first on its career rebounding list, was joined on the AP third team by Villanova's Allan Ray, Nevada's Nick Fazekas, LSU's Glen Davis and North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough.
The Associated Press All-America first team was Duke's J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams, Gonzaga's Adam Morrison, Villanova's Randy Foye and Washington's Brandon Roy.
The second team was made up of Illinois' Dee Brown, Memphis' Rodney Carney, Texas' P.J. Tucker, Connecticut's Rudy Gay and California's Leon Powe.
The All-America honor is the second for Smith this season. Two weeks ago (March 13), he earned All-America second-team honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He was joined on the NABC second team by Dee Brown, Rodney Carney, Allan Ray and Brandon Roy. Smith gained NABC All-America third-team honors in 2004-05.
Smith led BC to a school-record 28 wins this season and to a record-setting 96 wins in his four seasons. The Los Angles resident finished his collegiate career with 2,349 points and 1,114 rebounds. He averaged 17.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game in 36 games in 2005-06.
