Baseball Takes Down Virginia Tech, 9-7

Blacksburg, Va. - A two-run home run by Ryan Akel gave Boston College an extra inning win for the second consecutive game, defeating Virginia Tech 9-7, and earning a series sweep of the Hokies in Blacksburg, Va.
Down 6-2 in the eighth inning, the Hokies posted four runs to send the game into an extra frame, but the Eagles responded in the tenth inning, pushing two runs across via the Akel homer.
Tech took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on RBI's by Warren Schaffer and Jose Rojas, while Hokies starter Nicky Bowers held the Eagles hitless thorugh three innings.
In the fourth, however, Johnny Ayers walked to start the inning and was driven in two batters later on a Jared McGuire double. A Dave Preziosi single scored McGuire and tied the game at 2-2.
BC starter Nate Jeanes settled in and held the Hokies scoreless unitl the eighth, while Eric Campbell had one of his two hits in the fifth and scored on a Pete Frates single to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead.
The Eagles went to work again in the seventh, scoring three runs, the first two driven in on a squeeze bunt by Joseph Ayers, plating Campbell and Jeff Schomaker on a throwing error. Johnny Ayers then singled to drive in Joseph Ayers and give BC a 6-2 lead.
In a series filled with comebacks, the Hokies did just that, getting one run on a sacrifice fly by Matt Foley and tying the score on a pinch-hit, three-run blast by Sheldon Adams.
Ryan Hutchinson homered in the BC half of the ninth to once again put the Eagles on top, but Tech still had life, knotting the game at 7-7 on a double by Luke Padgett.
After a Shawn McGill walk led off the tenth inning, Akel provided the heroics for the visitors, drilling a two-run homer and moving BC's record to 13-10, 3-6 in the ACC.
BC will face Hartford in its home opener at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Chestnut Hill.
