Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 10 Virginia, 18-3

Charlottesville, Va. - Boston College freshman Emily Hannigan led the Eagles with a goal and an assist as BC fell to ACC opponent University of Virginia, 18-3, in the Eagles' second conference game of the season. Hannigan has scored at least two points in three of BC's four games this season. The Eagles fall to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in ACC action.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a 1-0 lead 5:29 into the first half but the Eagles would score next as Hannigan notched the Eagles' first goal of the game at 19:29 as both teams continued to play tough defense. But Virginia would eventually score seven unanswered goals until freshman Maura Mahoney notched BC's second goal of the game 4:18 in the second half.
The Cavaliers then went on a 10-0 scoring run before BC's third and final goal of the game. The Eagle's final goal was scored by freshman Margot Spatola, her third goal in the past two games, with 59 seconds left in regulation.
Four different Cavaliers scored three goals on the afternoon.
Spatola and senior tri-captain Brooke Wilson led the Eagle's defense with three groundballs a piece. Spatola won two draw controls, which also led the team.
Freshman Katie Monaghan started the game in goal made six saves in 55 minutes of play while picking up one groundball. Senior Tara McKennett entered the game for the final five minutes of the game.
The Eagles travel next to Hamden, Conn. to take on host Quinnipiac on March, 15 at 3 p.m.
