Boston College starter Terry Doyle threw eight strong innings, surrendering only one earned run, but the Eagles fell to NC State in its first ever ACC baseball game, 2-1 in Raleigh, N.C.
The Wolfpack got on the board in the fourth when the league's leading hitter Matt Mangini drove in Brian Aragon for the game's first run.
The Eagles loaded the bases in the top of the fourth, but could not push a run across until the sixth inning. Johnny Ayers singled to start the inning and made it to third on a Mangini error. A Jett Ruiz ground out pushed Ayers across to tie the score.
NC State scored the game-winner with two outs in the seventh inning. Jeremy Synan walked and reached third on two wild pitches by Doyle. He would score when Eagles shortstop Jared McGuire threw away a potential double play ball.
Ayers had two of the five hits on the day for BC who will continue the series tomorrow at 2 p.m.
