Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 6 North Carolina

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The women's lacrosse team dropped its first game of the season to Atlantic Coast Conference opponent, No. 6 University of North Carolina, 15-4. The Eagles, who enter their first year in ACC play, now drop to 0-1 overall and in ACC action. Freshman midfielder, Emily Hannigan, led the Eagles with two goals on the afternoon.
The Tarheels scored the first give goals of the period. Hannigan scored her first collegiate goal with 7:27 left in the first period on a free position shot to bring the score to 5-1. The Tarheels would score three more goals in the first period to increase their lead to seven as the two teams went into halftime.
In the second period, Erica Lagrow led the Tarheels on another scoring drive until Hannigan scored her second goal of the afternoon off a pass from junior Katherine Wagoner to bring the score to 11-2 at 18:09 in the second period.
Senior Lizette Blohm scored an unassisted goal for the Eagle's third goal of the game with 3:30 left in the period. Freshman Lauren Fitzpatrick scored the fourth and final goal of the game for the Eagles at 1:14.
The Tarheels outshot the Eagles by a final tally of 36-14. Stephanie Scurachio led the Tarheels with two goals and two assists.
Freshman goalie, Katie Monaghan started her first collegiate game on Sunday afternoon making 13 saves in the loss.
The Eagles return to action next Saturday, March 4, as the team travels to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown University. Face-off is slated for 1 p.m.
