TULSA, Okla. - Junior Britney Thompson pitched four shutout innings and Boston College scored 11 runs in five innings - including six runs in the fourth - to defeat Louisiana-Monroe in its opening game of the 2006 season before falling in the second half of the doubleheader to North Texas 6-4 in the Tulsa Tournament.
Thompson scattered three hits and struck out three batters in four innings of scoreless work to earn her first victory of the season.
Senior Elena Ferrero went 2-for-3 with four RBI while senior Jenna Macchi went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI to lead the Eagles to the win. Thompson, classmate Ashley Obrest and freshman Renee Ramos each collected multiple hits.
Boston College scored two runs in each of the second and third innings, before plating six runs in the fourth and one in the fifth for the 11-0 final.
Freshman Savana Lloyd pitched the final inning for BC, which gave Louisiana-Monroe (10-1) its first loss of the 2006 campaign.
The Eagles, however, fell to North Texas (6-6) in its second game of the day.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings of play before the Mean Green pushed across two, two-out runs in the top half of the fourth and one run in the sixth for the 3-0 lead.
BC (1-1) responded with three runs in the seventh. Ramos started the inning with a single. North Texas pitcher Kristina Fowler hit Carley McNary to put BC runners on first and second base. Macchi followed with a single through the left side to score one run before senior Kimmy Hopkin's two-RBI single.
North Texas countered with three runs off Ferrero, who relieved freshman Amanda Klimczak, in the eighth.
Klimczak threw four innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits. Ferrero took the loss for BC, surrendering four runs - two unearned - on four hits in four innings of work.
