CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (AP) - Craig Smith scored 19 points and helped No. 13 Boston College come away with a 59-47 victory over Stony Brook on Monday night.
Tyrese Rice added 10 points and was the only other player in double figures for the Eagles (20-5), who won for the eighth time in nine games and posted their fifth 20-win season in the last six.
Mitchell Beauford led the Seawolves (4-19) with 13 points. Stony Brook has lost eight of nine.
After a ragged 32 minutes, BC led the nonconference game 38-34.
The Eagles then up the intensity and went on a 10-0 run over a 1:50 stretch to take control. Rice started the spree with a 3-pointer from the left wing and Smith had five points, cutting to the basket for a dunk and easy layup.
BC continued to get the ball inside to Smith in the final 4:11 when the power forward scored nine of his team's final 11 points.
The Eagles had just one basket in the opening 10:49 of the second half, but led 36-32 with just over nine minutes to play.
BC led 28-21 at halftime despite shooting just 41 percent (9 of 22) and missing eight of its first nine shots.
The contest was tied at 16 with just over seven minutes left in the first half until Sean Williams' shot blocking seemed to give the Eagles a spark. He had three blocks late in the half.
Rice made a 3 from the top of the key that moved BC ahead for good, 19-16. It also triggered a 12-5 run to close the half.
The Seawolves came out scrappy, getting inside for a few offensive rebounds and driving for some easy baskets in the game's opening 12 minutes.
