AMHERST, Mass. - Junior Matt Burto's goal late in the second period broke a 1-1 tie and lifted Massachusetts to a 2-1 Hockey East victory over sixth-ranked Boston College before 6,342 fans in the Mullins Center.
Each of the game's three goals were scored in the middle period.
Sophomore Chris Davis got the host Minutemen (8-4-2, 5-3-1 Hockey East) on the scoreboard with a power-play goal at 8:54.
Less than two minutes later, BC junior forward Dan Bertram tied the score with his third goal of the season at 10:51.
Burto netted the game-winning goal at 17:07, beating BC junior goalie Cory Schneider (21 saves) on a breakaway.
BC (8-5-1, 5-3-1 HE) attempted a season-high 40 shots, including 16 in the middle frame. The visiting Eagles out shot the Minutemen, 40-23.
Massachusetts sophomore goalie Jon Quick tallied 39 saves to earn his seventh victory of the season.
The teams will conclude the home-and-home series on Saturday, Dec. 9, at Conte Forum.
