Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College survived a sloppy first half on its way to a 50-31 non-conference victory over the University of New Hampshire (2-5) tonight at Conte Forum.
Boston College (7-2) will travel to Philadelphia on Friday, Dec. 8 to play St. Joseph's (7 p.m.), while UNH will host Colgate on Saturday, Dec. 9 (1 p.m.).
Senior Sarah Marshall led the Eagles with 14 points and five assists, while senior center Kathrin Ress added 12 points and nine rebounds. Junior Laura Lokitis provided eight points off the bench for Boston College.
The Eagles got off to a sloppy start. In the first half alone, BC committed 16 turnovers, and attempted only 19 shots. Boston College went five minutes without scoring a basket and threw the ball away four times before senior Sarah Marshall hit a jumper in the lane to cut into the UNH lead, 7-6 at 12:19. Marshall gave the Eagles the lead for good in the half when she hit another jumper from the wing for an 8-7 lead at 10:16.
Freshman Ayla Brown gave the Eagles the largest lead of the half at 3:51, 16-9. BC shot 47 percent from the field in the half and had 19 rebounds but struggled taking care of the ball.
Boston College opened the second half with a 10-0 run to give the Eagles a 28-13 lead. The Eagles offensive spurt was sparked by four points from Kathrin Ress and four by freshman Elisabeth Egnell (six points, seven rebounds). Marshall hit three jumpers to help BC extend the lead to 38-18 with 11:33 to play.
Lokitis gave the Eagles their biggest lead in the second half with back-to-back three-pointers with 3:33 to play in the contest.
Game Notes: Senior Sarah Marshall had 14 points, which is a season high...Marshall was 7-for-7 in the game until missing her first shot with 9:50 to play with the shot clock running down in the second half ... BC opened the second half shooting 4-for-4 from the field and a 10-0 run ... Kathrin Ress is now just 22 points away from 1,000 points in her career ... She reached the 500 rebound career mark in the first half and finished with nine rebounds for the night ... After committing 16 first half turnovers, the Eagles cleaned up their play and turned the ball over only four times in the second stanza
