
Ress, Egnell Lead Women's Basketball To Victory

Senior Kathrin Ress and freshman Elisabeth Egnell combined for 27 points and 17 rebounds to lead Boston College past host Holy Cross, 53-36, at the Hart Center tonight in a non-conference game. Ress finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Egnell had 14 points and eight rebounds. The Eagles are 6-2, while Holy Cross is now 3-5.
Next up for the Eagles is the University of New Hampshire at Conte Forum on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. Holy Cross will host Connecticut on Monday, Dec. 4 at the DCU Center in Worcester (7 p.m.).
The Eagles opened the second half with a 9-4 run to go ahead of the Crusaders, 36-23, with 10:58 to play. Holy Cross made a run when BC's Ress picked up her third foul at 10:21. The Crusaders cut into the lead with a lay-up by Kaitlin Foley (10 points) and three-pointer by Bethany O'Dell. The BC lead was just 13 points. The Eagles, with Ress on the bench, went on a 9-0 run highlighted by a old-fashion three-point play by Egnell at 5:05 and the Eagles led, 50-28.
In the first half the Eagles held a 27-16 lead behind six points from Kaydia Kentish and seven from Ress. The Eagles pulled away in the final two minutes behind two three-pointes from Egnell, followed by an inside hoop from Ress with seven seconds to play in the half.
The Eagles committed 22 turnovers but shot 51.2 percent from the floor (22-for-43), while Holy Cross was 15-for-51 from the field (29.4 percent).
Game Notes: Kathrin Ress is now just 34 points away from the 1,000 point mark ... She also needs four more rebounds to reach the 500 mark ... This is Egnell's fourth double-digit night. The freshman is the Eagles second leading scorer with 90 points. She is also the BC's second-leading rebounder with 61 on the season ... The Eagles had 15 team assists on 22 field goals ... Senior Sarah Marshall played 35 minutes and had only one turnover.
