CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College baseball team's Diamond Club will hold its 15th annual "Baseball Night in Boston" on Monday, January 29, 2007. The event was originally scheduled for Thursday, January 25. It will be held in the Yawkey Athletics Center, beginning at 6 p.m. Special guest Peter Gammons will be the featured speaker.
The annual Baseball Night event benefits the Boston College Baseball program. Proceeds from the dinner and auction support scholarships and program needs for the baseball team.
Gammons is universally regarded as one of the top sports reporters in the nation. He began his career with The Boston Globe and has also written for Sport Illustrated, Baseball America, and ESPN The Magazine. He currently works for ESPN, where he is a studio analyst for Baseball Tonight and ESPN2's Baseball 2Day. In addition, his "Diamond Notes" are a regular feature on Sportscenter during the baseball season.
In 1989, 1990, and 1993, Gammons was voted the National Sportswriter of the Year and was awarded an honorary Pointer Fellow by Yale University. The Baseball Writers' Association of America bestowed its highest honor - the J. G. Taylor Spink Award for excellence in baseball writing - on him in 2004. He accepted the award during the 2005 Baseball Hall of Fame weekend in Cooperstown, NY, on July 31, 2005.
