North Andover, Mass. Sophomore defenseman Anthony Aiello snapped a 1-1 tie with a third-period power-play goal and Benn Ferriero scored in a shorthanded situation less than two minutes later to lead third-ranked Boston College to a 3-1 Hockey East victory over Merrimack before 2,812 fans in Lawler Arena.
BC (6-3-0, 3-1-0 Hockey East) scored once in the third period and twice in the final frame to earn the 3-1 victory.
Aiello's third-period goal marked his first goal of the season. Senior captain Brian Boyle and sophomore forward Nathan Gerbe assisted on the play.
Ferriero gave the visiting Eagles a two-goal lead less than two minutes later, beating Merrimack goalie Jim Healey (26 saves) for his fifth goal of the season.
Merrimack sophomore John Goebel netted the game's first goal at 5:41 of the first period to give the host Warriors (1-7-1, 1-4-1 HE) an early one-goal lead.
Sophomore defenseman Tim Kunes tied the score at 1-1 with his first goal of the season at 16:37 of the second period. Kunes intercepted a Merrimack pass at center ice, skated into the offensive zone and beat Healey with a wrist shot.
Junior goalie Cory Schneider made 24 saves to earn his 43rd collegiate victory.
