CHESTNUT HILL, MA - A 4-2 record in two tournaments is something the women's softball team can definitely build upon. The hope is that the little success in the fall becomes a huge success in the spring.
The team opened up fall ball out in Amherst at the UMass Fall Tournament on Sept. 23.
In the first game, Boston College came away with a 3-1 win past Vermont behind the solid play of Amanda Klimczak, who went four innings, struck out five and did not give up a walk. Savana Lloyd came in for relief and closed out the game. Klimczak and Lloyd yielded only three hits from Vermont.
Offensively the Eagles scored two runs when Angela Pandolfo walked and was moved along on a sacrifice by Taylor Peyton. Pandolfo would score on a double by Jenna Macchi. Britney Thompson would then stroke a double and Pandolfo scored to make it 2-0.
Thompson went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and RBI, while Macchi had a double and an RBI.
In the second game of the day, the Eagles fell to host UMass, 2-0, behind a two-run homerun by Amanda Acampora.
BC had a number of chances to get on the board as Jenna Macchi had a double in the fifth inning. She advanced to third on a fielder's choice but was left stranded.
Eagles' pitcher Taylor Peyton had four strikeouts and scattered six hits, while BC had three hits in the game. Defensively both teams were solid as there were not errors recorded.
Boston College played Harvard and BU on September 30. The Eagles defeated the Harvard Crimson, 3-2, but fell to the Boston University Terriers, 4-2.
In the Providence Fall Tournament on October 7, Boston College improved to 2-1 with a 6-1 victory over Rhode Island.
Savanna Lloyd earned the win as she went four innings, had four strikeouts and did not give up a run. Britney Thomson came in for relief and gave up three hits and had one strikeout.
The offense was powered by Thomson who had two hits, including a two-run homerun. Amy Tunstall added a single and a double while catcher Ashley Obrest threw out three URI runners on the base paths.
The Eagles scored two runs in the second inning on singles by Obrest, Thomson, a sacrifice fly by Renee Ramos and two more singles by Amy Tunstall and Taylor Peyton.
In the bottom of the third, Boston College scored three runs. The big hit was the two-run homerun by Thomson.
The final game of the fall season was a 5-4 victory against former Big East foe, Providence. Amanda Klimczak earned the win as she went the distance, had three strikeouts and gave up four hits.
Ashly Obrest singled in Angela Pandolfo, who reached on a single and advanced on a sac bunt in the first inning. Pandolfo would give the Eagles a 4-1 lead in the fourth on a three-run home run.
Providence shot back with three runs in the fourth off two walks and three singles. With the score tied at 4-4, Obrest and Britney Thomson hit back-to-back doubles for a 5-4 lead.
The Eagles defense recorded three straight outs in the final inning to preserve the victory.
