The Boston College women's rowing team took part in an annual New England tradition this past weekend, the Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River in Boston, Mass.
The Eagles raced in four Head of the Charles competitions - the championship eight and four, as well as the club eight and four.
The championship eight boat finished 30th out of 45 entries, in a race won by U.S. national team rowers. The official time was 17 minutes and 9.061 seconds, which placed the Eagles in the top 10% of the winning time.
The second varsity eight had the highest finish for Boston College over the weekend, placing 12th out of 51 entries in the club eight race - just one minute and two seconds off the winning time.
Prior to the start of racing on Saturday, the Eagles dedicated their new boat - donated in honor of Paul (Painless) Crombach, late father of BC graduate Katie Crombach Jenkins '98.
Coach Steve Fiske reflected on the kick-off to the season, "It was a great weekend, we had a lot of alumni and fans come back. The support was great and we raced well. It gave us a good starting point for the year."
The Eagles will race three women's eights and four women's fours at the Princeton Chase on Sunday, October 29 at Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. The regatta will take place from 12 PM to 4 PM. For more information, visit http://www.clra.com/princeton/chase/chase.htm.
