Boston College was selected third in the Atlantic Coast Conference's preseason men's basketball media poll. The announcement was made at the league's "Operation Basketball" (media day), which was held at the Grandover Resort & Conference Center in Greensboro, N.C. on Sunday.
North Carolina was selected first in the preseason media poll. The Tar Heels were picked to finish first on 59 of 62 ballots. Duke was picked second (two first-place votes), followed by the Eagles (one first-place vote). Georgia Tech was tabbed to finish four, followed by Florida State and Virginia Tech.
The bottom half of the preseason list was - in order - Maryland, Virginia, Clemson, Wake Forest, Miami and North Carolina State.
Senior forward Jared Dudley gained a spot on the All-ACC preseason first team. The San Diego, Calif., resident earned All-Conference second-team accolades last winter. He enters his senior season with 1,500 career points.
Dudley was the second-highest vote getter with 58 votes. North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough was a unanimous choice, getting all 62 votes. Joining Dudley and Hansbrough on the first team were Virginia's Sean Singletary (53 votes), Florida State's Al Thornton (52) and Duke's Josh McRoberts (52).
The second team was made up of Georgia Tech's Anthony Morrow, Virginia Tech's Coleman Collins, North Carolina's Reyshawn Terry, Virginia's J.R. Reynolds and Virginia Tech's Zabian Dowdell.
Hansbrough earned ACC (Preseason) Player of the Year honors, gaining 48 of the 62 votes. Thornton and McRoberts each received four votes, while Dudley and Singletary each picked up three votes.
Georgia Tech's Thaddeus Young was the preseason choice as the conference's Rookie of the Year.
Media Day Notes: Head coach Al Skinner, and seniors Jared Dudley and Sean Marshall represented the Eagles at the event ... The event featured just more than four hours of interviews. The 12 league coaches met with the print media for the first two hours, while 22 of the league's finest players in attendance (two per school, except NC State and Duke) chatted with the electronic media. The coaches and players switched assignments for the second half of the event ... Among the players in attendance were DeMarcus Nelson (Duke), D.J. Strawberry (Maryland), Anthony Harris (Miami), Zabian Dowdell and Jamon Gordon (Virginia Tech), Engin Atsur (NC State), and Sean Singletary and J.R. Reynolds (Virginia).
