Winston-Salem, N.C. - Less than 24 hours after battling league leading Duke, the Eagles looked to get back on the winning track but dropped a close 3-1 decision to the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest University last night.
BC got on the board first in a close game one, edging Wake Forest 30-28. After trailing early, the Eagles squared the contest at 11-11 on a kill by freshman Taylor Williams. Game one would have eight ties but the Eagles would take the lead for good on a Kelsey Johnson kill and hold on for the game one win.
The Demon Deacons jumped out to a quick 12-6 lead in game two. BC would rally tying the score at 20-20 late in the contest. With the Eagles trailing by two, 26-24, Wake Forest would get strong serving from senior Natasha Schaefer and close out BC for a 30-24 game two win.
Game three was another close fight. With 11 tie scores and three lead changes, neither team was backing down. With the Eagles holding a 24-21 lead, Wake would rattle off six straight points off the serve of senior Lauren Peterson to take a pivotal 27-24 lead. BC would cut the deficit back to two, 27-25 but the Demon Deacons would hold on for a critical game three victory.
The Eagles did not go down without a fight. Game four was not much different than the first three with the score remaining close throughout. Serving at 21-19, Wake Forest would win nine out of the last 15 points to close out BC 30-25 for a 3-1 decision.
Junior Jackie Lucas led Wake Forest with 16 kills. Sophomore Jessica Furlong also played well registering 15 kills and eight digs. Senior Kristin Kenny recorded a match-high 54 assists in a losing effort for the Eagles.
BC will look to get back on the winning track as they take on N.C. State Friday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C.
