Boston, Mass. - The Eagles traveled cross-town as they took on the Northeastern Huskies for the second time this season at Matthews Arena. The Eagles came back after three tough losses to get their first win in four games. Sophomore Lindsay Wright scored the gamewinner with 28 seconds left in the second period as the Eagles took the game, 2-1.
Both teams opened up with aggressive play, but it would be the Eagles who would strike first. At 3:10 into the first period, the Eagle's leading scoring, sophomore Deborah Spillane, took the puck from classmate Sarah Feldman and junior Krystal Strassman and snuck it by Northeastern goalie, Marisa Hourihan to put BC up, 1-0. The Eagles continued to pepper Hourihan with shots as they finished the first period with 12 shots on goal. Senior co-captain Alison Quandt also made five key saves to protect BC's one goal lead.
After being plagued by penalties in the beginning of the second half, the Eagles focused on their defense and keeping their, 1-0 lead intact. But finally, with 6:35 left in the second period the Huskies answered back with a goal of their own. Northeastern sophomore Nikki Petrich scored her fifth goal of the season, tying the game up at one a piece.
But with 28 seconds left in the second period, Wright slid the puck past Hourihan for her second goal of the season and the Eagles' second goal of the game. Classmate Lee-J Mirasolo and freshman Shannon Webster assisted on the goal which marked both forward's first points of the season. The Eagles went into the third period sitting on a 2-1 lead.
The third period provided a lot of scoring opportunities for both teams but to no avail. Both goalies had 20 minutes of shut out play in the third period. Hourihan finished the night with 29 saves while Quandt had her fourth 20 save game in as many games.
The Eagles now stand at 7-7-4 and 6-2-1 in Hockey East play. The Eagles return home on Thursday, Jan. 12 and 13 as they take on the University of Vermont Catamounts for a two-game home stint. The puck drops at 2 p.m. for both games.
