Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team fell to 5-7 overall and 0-3 in conference play after a tough battle with the Florida State Seminoles. With their first three conference matches under their belt, the Eagles look to bounce back against Virginia and Virginia Tech next weekend.
The Seminoles came out strong in the first game and defeated BC 30-24. But BC came roaring back in the second game to beat Florida State 30-25.
Junior Dorota Niemczewska returned after sustaining an ankle injury in their match against Maryland and led the team with kills tallying 18 on the night. She had a .375 hitting percentage and also dug nine balls. Sophomore Abigail Hasebroock had a strong performance totaling 14 kills on the night and added six block assists for the match. Co-captain Allison Anderson had 23 digs and one served ace. Senior setter Verena Rost and freshmen setter Brittany Pierpont split duties tonight tallying 25 and 24 assists a piece. Rost also put down five kills and had nine digs on the evening.
Florida State took game three 30-25 but a resilient BC team came back after the Seminoles led most of game four and made a gallant run at the end. The Eagles would eventually come back from being down three points 26-29 and brought the game within one. But after the score was 28-29 in Florida State's favor an attack error gave the Seminoles the game and the match.
The Eagles look to rebound in conference play when they travel to Virginia on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 to take on Virginia and Virginia Tech respectively.
