Volleyball Stumbles Against Virginia

Charlottesville, Va. - The Eagles fell to Virginia in conference play 3-0. BC looks to comeback in ACC action as the team takes on Virginia Tech Saturday Oct. 1, 2005 at 7 p.m. Boston College falls to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in the league.
Sophomore Abigail Hasebroock led the attack with 17 kills and a .400 hitting percentage on the night. Hasebroock also chipped in two blocks and two digs. Sophomore Kelsey Johnson added seven kills on the night with a .250 hitting percentage and put up two blocks as well.
Senior co-captain Verena Rost led the team with 29 assists for the match and added three kills, four digs and one block. Junior co-captain and libero Allison Anderson had 10 digs on the night and 19 serve receptions. The team had an overall hitting percentage of .118.
Virginia never trailed in the first game of the match and overpowered the Eagles with a score of 30-17. BC came back strong in the second game and led 23-21 at one point, but the Cavaliers would not go away quietly. Virginia would eventually run off six consecutive points and take a 30-24 decision at the end of the game. The Eagles led much of the third game, but Virginia used a kill by Lindsay Osco and a service ace by second-year defensive specialist Taylor Russo to break a 25-25 tie and grab a 27-25 edge. Virginia would take the third game 31-29 and win the match 3-0.
The Eagles will take on the Virginia Tech Hokies on Oct. 1. BC continues their road trip next week as they take on Clemson and Georgia Tech on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively.
