Volleyball Falls to Virginia Tech

Blacksburg, Va. - The Eagles lost a tough conference match to a strong Virginia Tech team 3-0. The Hokies beat the Eagles with scores of 30-21, 30-24 and 30-27.
The Eagles fall to 5-9 overall and 0-5 in ACC play while the Hokies improved to 6-6 and 2-2 in conference play.
Sophomore Abigail Hasebroock and junior Morgan Woodcock led the attack for the match with 11 kills a piece. Woodcock also had two blocks on the night while Hasebroock contributed one. Junior Kristin Kenney had a season high 20 digs while co-captain Allison Anderson had nine digs and five kills along with one served ace. Senior setter Verena Rost had another strong showing assisting her team 33 times, digging the ball four times and totaling two kills. Kelsey Johnson also laid down eight kills for the Eagles.
In the first game, the Hokies had a two-point lead, 23-21, before scoring the final seven points of the game to take the 30-21 win from the Eagles. Game two was much of the same as Virginia Tech took a late two-point lead, 25-23. The Hokies would eventually go on a 5-1 run for the win, 30-24.
Tech pulled ahead to a six-point lead early in the third game, before a six-point run by Boston College tied the game at 16. Boston College remained within two points of the Hokies through the remainder of the game. With a one point Virginia Tech lead, 28-27, an Eagles service error and block assists from the Hokies would give Tech the victory, 30-27. The Eagles return to conference play next weekend as they take on Clemson and Georgia Tech on the road on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8.
