Clemson, S.C - The Eagles won their first-ever conference match since entering the ACC as they downed the Clemson Tigers 3-1 in Clemson, S.C.
The Eagles improved to 6-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play while Clemson falls to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in ACC action.
BC started off strong and dominated the Tigers for games one and two but faltered slightly in the third game. Boston College claimed the first game by a score of 30-22 and then won the second game easily, 30-23, to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Tigers took the lead early in the third game but the Eagles would rally to cut Clemson's lead to 23-21. The Tigers would eventually come back and take the third game 30-26 to force a fourth game.
The Eagles were not going to go away quietly and lead for most of the fourth and final game. Clemson went on a seven point run to make a small comeback, but BC went on its own run and would eventually take the game, the match, and the win with a score of 30-26.
Junior co-captain Allison Anderson led the team with 21 kills and four served aces. Anderson also added 20 digs on the defensive end and put up two blocks. Three other Eagles also put up double-digit kills and the team hit a match-high .221. Sophomores Kelsey Johnson and Abigail Hasebroock had 18 and 11 kills respectively while junior middle blocker Morgan Woodcock put down 13 kills.
Hasebroock also led all Eagles with six total blocks while Woodcock had three and Johnson put up two for the match. Senior co-captain Verena Rost assisted her team a match-high 59 times while digging the ball nine times and putting up two blocks.
On the defensive end Kristin Kenney led the team with 26 digs.
The Eagles look to continue their winning ways on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Atlanta, Ga., against Georgia Tech at 8 p.m.
