Chesnut Hill, Mass. - The women's soccer team continued to shut out their opponents with a 2-0 win on Friday night. Sophomore Kia McNeill scored her second goal of the season and classmate Tara Luciani scored her first goal in her season debut. The Eagles improve to 3-0-0, while the Pioneers fall to 0-2-0.
The Eagles struck first at 15:07 when senior Katie McGregor fed a pass through the defense to McNeill, who was sprinting down the middle of the 18-yard box. McNeill found a seam in the defense and struck the ball hard and into the lower right corner to put the Eagles on top for good. This was her second goal of the season.
On the second goal McNeill, with her back to the goal, sent a perfect ball to Luciani who brought it into the six-yard box. Using fancy footwork to beat the Sacred Heart defenders, Luciani slotted the ball into the far right corner from what seemed like an impossible angle at 75:21. This was Luciani's season debut and her goal put the game out of reach. Last season Luciani was fourth on the team in points, scoring five goals and recording two assists.
Junior goalkeeper Arianna Criscione collected her third straight shutout on the season with a three save effort. The Eagles have now gone 270 minutes without a goal allowed.
From the first whistle the Eagles offense went on the attack with one touch passes and give and go's. On three separate occasions the offense struck the goal post. They led in all offensive categories including shots (21), shots on goal (eight) and corner kicks (six).
The defense, led by senior co-captain Lindsey McArdle, held the Pioneers to six shots, and only allowed three on frame.
Next up for the Eagles is on Sunday, Sept. 11, when they host Harvard at 3:30.
