Boston College junior forward Jared Dudley has accepted an invitation to attend the USA Basketball Men's Under-21 National Team Trials in Dallas, Texas, from July 21-23, 2005.
Dudley is one of 21 players who are 21-years-old or younger to gain and accept an invitation to the camp. The selections were made by the USA Basketball Men's Collegiate Committee, which is chaired by Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim.
The trials will be used to select the final 12-member U.S. U21 squad that will look to defend the USA's gold medal at the 2005 FIBA U21 World Championship. The trials will be conducted at the Dallas Mavericks practice facility inside the American Airlines Center. The championship event will be held from August 5-14 in Mar de Plata, Argentina.
Saint Joseph's head coach Phil Martelli will serve as the USA team's head coach. Georgia head coach Dennis Felton and Drexel head coach James "Bruiser" Flint will serve as assistant coaches.
Dudley is one of three players from the Atlantic Coast Conference to earn an invitation. Joining Dudley are Wake Forest guard Justin Gray and Duke guard J.J. Redick.
As a sophomore this past winter, Dudley earned All-Big East first-team honors after averaging 17.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in league contests. He shared the league's Most Improved Player award with Connecticut's Marcus Williams. Dudley also gained Division I All-District 1 honors from the United States Basketball Writers Association; All-Northeast Region accolades from Basketball Times; and All-East second-team honors from Eastern Basketball.
Boston College, which finished its 2004-05 Big East slate with a 13-3 mark and a share of the league regular-season title, enters its first season of ACC competition this winter.
